29" Wheels Berg Ratheberg 30 XC SL - Extralite HyperBoost3 - Berd Dyneema - 970 gr.

With only 970 grams for the pair, Berg/Extralite/Berd wheels are some of the lightest 29" MTB tubeless ready wheels on the market. They are assembled with Berg Ratheberg 30 XC SL 290 gr. rims, Extralite HyperBoost3 hubs, Berd Dyneema textile spokes and aluminum nipples.

They're laced with straight-pull spokes (28h/28h) and Boost hubs but can also be assembled with other hub standards (for Lefty or RS-1 forks too). They're available with Shimano 11s cassette body, Sram XD 11-12s cassette body or Shimano Micro Spline 12s cassette body. 

With only 290 grams (tolerance +/- 1%) the Berg Ratheberg 30 XC SL 290 gr. are among the lightest 29" clincher rims currently on the market.

They are characterized by an external width of 35 mm and an internal channel of 30 mm with a profile height of 21 mm. The geometry with a lowered section allows to obtain rims with excellent lateral stiffness and high capacity to dampen impacts and vibrations, therefore greater resistance and better comfort.

The rim profile is asymmetrical with a 2 mm offset. The asymmetry allows a better balance of the spoke tension on both sides of the wheel to guarantee greater stability and longevity of performance (less stressed spokes and wheels that maintain tension and centering for longer).

Side walls are Hookless type, and make Ratheberg rims compatible with 29" Tubeless or Tubeless Ready tires (with tubeless conversion systems with sealants).

The Ratheberg 30 XC SL rims are available with 28h drilling with matte Unidirectional UD carbon weave and glossy black graphics under clear coat, a very nice look, elegant and racing at the same time.

The Ratheberg 30 XC SL rims are made with monolithic construction using entirely high quality carbon fiber. The generous section also guarantees great lateral stiffness and greater air volume which allows you to ride at lower operating pressures with consequent better performance (better grip and traction, greater comfort and less risk of punctures). The width of the channel allows the use of tires with section from 2.2" to 2.7" (52-69 mm). The maximum allowable pressure is 4 bar (60 PSI), while the minimum is 25-40 PSI. The maximum allowable tension for the spokes is 1100N. The maximum weight allowed for the biker is 100 kg.

Berg rims are covered by a regular 2-year warranty plus a 3-year Crash Replacement policy which includes a replacement rim at a special discounted price (-40%) in case of accidental breakage. Warranty and Crash replacement are applicable to the first owner only. BERG in Flemish language means "mountain" hence the particular logo, BERG is a Belgian company formed by a young and dynamic team of enthusiasts, riders, engineers and designers. The company's goal is to create products dedicated to XC, XCO and Olympic Marathon use, which are highly performing, light and reliable at the best possible price with a modern and attractive look. It is a great challenge full of stimuli and the BERG guys have what it takes and the enthusiasm necessary to achieve the set goals.

The production process first involves the design and simulation on the computer, the prototypes are then made and tested and analyzed by both the racers and the engineers, the final step is the regulatory tests performed in Germany by EFBE following the most severe procedures. The tests are repeated over time at periodic intervals of 3 months to ensure adequate quality control.

If the rims are new on the market, the hubs are a very best seller, we are talking about the famous Extralite HyperBoost 3 hubs, which are the only choice to assemble an  ultralight wheelset!

Extralite HyperBoost 3 hubs are fine mechanics masterpieces. They're made of 7075T6 aluminum ably machined to obtain smooth and sexy shapes. They've got straight-pull flanges for straight-pull spokes which allows stronger and stiffer wheels without weakness typical of j-bend spokes.

Extralite HyperBoost 3 hubs has got an hyper engineered front engagement system with 36 engagement positions for a fast and smooth action with minimal friction resistance (as option with an extra fee are available also with 48 points of engagement).

Rolling action take advantages from the use of Enduro ABEC5 stainless steel sealed bearings; this kind of material assure a longer bearing life also with severe conditions. An external bearings pre-load system allows to obtain the perfect side play for the maximum performance (rolling resistance, smoothness and lasting). Hyper Ceramic bearings are also available as option.

Another exclusive feature of these wheels is the use of the revolutionary Berd textile Dyneema spokes (made in the USA). Berd spokes are very expensive, complex to make and to assemble but they really have many advantages.

Berd spokes are made with an advanced polymer called Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) also known as Dyneema. Dyneema has 12 times the strength / weight ratio of steel and floats on water. This is what makes Berd spokes the lightest, strongest and most durable ever invented (thanks to the use of this special materia)!

With only 2.5 grams per spoke, Berd spokes are the lightest in the world and allow you to save several tens of grams compared to even the lightest steel spokes. As is known, the weight saved on the rotating masses is much more important and generates greater benefit than elsewhere.

Despite their significantly lower weight, Berd spokes have even better mechanical characteristics than traditional steel spokes: greater tensile strength, lower elongation, greater resistance to corrosion and atmospheric agents. They also have a very large capacity to dampen vibrations and impacts, so they give life to very comfortable and very resistant wheels that are free from the problems of fatigue life typical of metals. The greater comfort is not at the expense of the overall stiffness or the reactivity that remain at the top of the category.

Super light spokes but also very reliable and long-lasting (straight-pull head spokes are already more resistant as they do not have the classic bent head, which is the typical weak point of traditional spokes), several laboratory tests have confirmed their positive effect on the whole. wheel that is overall more resistant and more capable of absorbing impacts without suffering permanent damage.

Wheels assembled with Berd spokes are built with a gradual, multi-day tightening process to reduce the amount of tension loss that will occur after the wheels are installed on a bicycle. Despite this, the tension in the wheels with Berd spokes will decrease by about 30% in the first 6 months of use due to the natural settling process of the fibers (the phenomenon is known as "Creep") but, unlike the metal spokes, they retain all their strength regardless of tension. This loss of tension does not affect the life or longevity of the Berd spoked wheels and there is no need to increase the tension. The stiffness of the wheels in fact depends weakly on the tension of the spokes (less than 10%), if you wish you can still proceed with re-tightening after 3-6 months.

Spoke nipples are made of aluminum and they're double square type for a better fitting with rim holes. These nipples has also got a special system that avoid spokes loosen.

With only 970 grams for the pair, these wheels are some of the lightest MTB 29" clincher wheels on the market. All the weights has got 2% tolerance and are indicative, subject to modify from the manufacturers of any wheels parts.

We are talking about top level wheels! Their weight is impressive but their performance is also impressive! These wheels are not only super fast but also very stiff and super comfortable and of course strong and reliable too!

All the other combinations have the words "TO ORDER" and consequently must be ordered specifically with very variable waiting times (they can be available for immediate delivery in the central warehouse in Belgium or in the production phase with more or less long waiting times) , we therefore always recommend contacting us so that we can check the timing with the manufacturer.
