Gemini Propus is the lightest and more advanced integrated MTB XC handlebar on the market, weights starts from only 149 gr. It's made with monolithic technology and the best carbon fibers available: Mitsubishi MR70. Its beautiful design is also efficient and assure great stiffness, a superior comfort and total safety/reliability. The geometry is optimized for frames with 67°- 70° head tube angle, the handlebar has got 7° backsweep, 5° upsweep and 0 mm rise, 740 mm width (shortable). Gemini Propus is the most advanced and performing integrated handlebar for MTB use (XC, Marathon) available on the market, is also the lightest one (weights starts from 149 gr.) and surely one of the finest and coolest!
Propus handlebar is a monolithic carbon fiber structure which integrate in a single product a stem and an handlebar. The unibody design offer many advantages for an unique resistance that cannot be compared with any conventional handlebar. Fibers aren't interrupted and can works in the best way with a linear and progressive action, where loads are distributed on a greater surface. So there are no weak points and stressed areas like the ones that you can find in a traditional setup where the handlebar is constantly compressed by the stem and this increase not only the resistance but also safety and fatigue life.
The unconventional design allows to use unconventional solutions; the circular cross sections perform equally in all directions, this is why gemini have developed the GMN section with two basic purposes: decreasing hand fatigue arising from vibrations and forces, and increasing reactivity and control when turning. By reducing the vertical section is possible to increase absorption of vertical impacts and vibrations, this translates into less hand fatigue and being able to keep an high speed of descent. By enlarging the horizontal section is possible to increase the rigidity of the handlebar against any force exerted by the rider when turning, this translates into a more direct and reactive steering control.
A clever design means aesthetics and functionality at the same time, for example, the most visible part of the bike has been integrated as much as possible with the use of a special cap which hides the upper bolt, leaving an orifice to insert only a torx wrench to tighten it and, thus, providing a cleaner look to the cockpit. The portion of the integrated handlebar that works on the fork head tube is reduced (only 29.5 mm height) and this allows a lowered riding position (more grip and control) and also to use short cutted steering tube forks.
Fixing bolts and cap bolt are titanium made, black anodized, with tapered head and torx wrench insert. titanium is the best material to be in contact with carbon fiber, thanks to its chemical properties, it acts as a noble material, preventing any kind of galvanic corrosion, as well has got the perfect balance of mechanical properties and weight.
Propus handlebar has got 7° Backsweep and 5° Upsweep with 0 mm rise, comes in 740 mm width but can be shortened (up to 700 mm), please specify the wanted width in the order note.
Propus handlebar is available in many lengths : 50-60-70-80-90-100 mm. Stem angle change with the length but the handlebar offset is always the same : -12 mm. This geometry is compatible with modern XC Racing bikes, with head tube angle from 67° to 70°. Lowered position means lower mass gravity center for a better stability and ride ability.
Propus handlebar is made of high-end Mitsubishi MR70 aerospace grade carbon fiber, the most advanced and resistant fiber with an intermediate modulus on the market. It's the best option to ensure optimum performance of the handlebar as well as increase its resistance lowering its weight.
The material proprieties are really important, but so is the building structure of the parts, this is why Gemini use a "sandwich" structure, using twill as the external and internal layers to increase its resistance to delamination due to impacts, and an UD carbon fiber core that ensures getting the best mechanical and structural properties of the fiber.
What cannot be seen is as important as what can be seen, this is why Gemini created a specific silicone bladder for each handlebar size, which fit perfectly to the handlebar shape and obtain a perfect fiber compaction, avoiding the formation of wrinkles and resin pools. So the final result is a perfectly compacted composite structure, very light and strong!
Propus handlebar has been tested in the laboratory and on the terrain, passing highly demanding tests of resistance. Thank you to its unibody design and the material used to produce it, it offers an unique resistance, making it an optimized piece for racing. The entire handlebar development is constantly measured and validated. The process control bending, and strictly test for fatigue and impact to ensure the final lay-up is highly resistant and performs the way it has been designed for. Gemini handlebars go through resistance tests far superior to those required by ISO 4210-5, passing the most demanding tests of the industry to ensure maximum resistance.
Thanks to the manufacturing process, Gemini obtain high quality pieces , each handlebar is tested through low-frequency waves to detect any possible irregularities. Finally, every piece is treated and lacquered for UV protection with an high-resistance ceramic lacquer, which provides protection as well a spectacular finish.
With weights starting from only 149 grams (50 mm x 740 mm, top cap+ 11 gr, +/- 5% tolerance), Propus is the lightest integrated handlebar on the market and one of the lightest solution possible. Max rider allowed weight is 90 kg, but on demand Gemini can produce also Propus handlebar without rider weight limits (+ 25/30 grams).
Please take note that save weight on handlebar and stem is important because allows to lower not only the complete bike weight but also the mass gravity center, improving stability and drive ability and reduce the energy lost by pendulum effect. These are details but they're important for any observant and demanding rider.
Propus handlebars can be produce with 12k Twill or UD external layer fabrics, the customer can also choose from glossy or matte finishing (please specify your preferences inside order note). Propus handlebar is covered by regular 2 years long warranty but there's also a "crash replacement" policy that allows to save 50% value if you need to replace the handlebar after an unfortunate accident (or for any other case not covered by the warranty).
