With only 990 grams weight for the pair (QR12 thru axles, XDR freewheel body) Extralite CyberDisc 339 Clincher Berd are some of the lightest wheels on the market.
These wheels are for disc brakes and tubeless tires and are for Road Racing use. They're laced with 24x straight-pull spokes, front and rear both. They're available with quick release or QR12 thru axles hubs standard and with Campagnolo, Shimano and Sram 11-12s compatible freewheel body.
They've got a "stealth" look with UD matte rims, glossy black sticker decals, black anodized hubs and black dyed spokes. Despite the record weight and, contrary to what one is led to think, these are very robust and reliable wheels.
The AeroWide rims are hookless and have an asymmetrical profile with a 2.6 mm offset to optimize the balance of the spoke tension, thus obtaining a more balanced and consequently reliable wheel. They are characterized by an aerodynamic teardrop shape with a profile height of 39 mm, external width of 27 mm and a 21 mm inner channel.
The AeroWide rims are compatible with 28" tubeless tires with or without inner tube (hookless rims aren't compatible with standard clincher tires) and are for disc brakes only (therefore they have no braking surface). AeroWide rims are monolithic and produced using high-quality Toray carbon fiber.
The generous section also guarantees very high lateral and torsional rigidity and allows the use of wider tires (up to 32 mm) with a greater volume of air that allow travel at lower operating pressures with consequent high performance (better grip and traction, greater comfort and less risk of punctures).
Also the hubs are top quality ones, we are talking about the famous Extralite CyberFront and CyberRear SPD-3 hubs, which are the only choice to assemble an ultralight wheelset!
Extralite CyberHubs are fine mechanics masterpieces. They're made of 7075T6 aluminum ably machined to obtain smooth and sexy shapes. They've got straight-pull flanges for straight-pull spokes which allows stronger and stiffer wheels without weakness typical of j-bend spokes.
Extralite HyperBoost hubs has got an hyper engineered engagement system with 32 engagement positions for a fast and smooth action with minimal friction resistance. The 32T ratcher ring is made of titanium.
Rolling action take advantages from the use of Enduro ABEC5 steel sealed bearings. An external bearings pre-load system allows to obtain the perfect side play for the maximum performance (rolling resistance, smoothness and lasting). Stainless Steel ABI Enduro 440, Hyper Ceramic hybrid and XD-15 full ceramic bearings are also available as option.

Another exclusive feature of the CyberDisc 339 Clincher Berd wheels is the use of the revolutionary Berd textile Dyneema spokes (made in the USA). Berd spokes are very expensive, complex to make and to assemble but they really have many advantages.
Berd spokes are made with an advanced polymer called Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) also known as Dyneema. Dyneema has 12 times the strength / weight ratio of steel and floats on water. This is what makes Berd spokes the lightest, strongest and most durable ever invented (thanks to the use of this special materia)!
With only 2.5 grams per spoke, Berd spokes are the lightest in the world and allow you to save several tens of grams compared to even the lightest steel spokes. As is known, the weight saved on the rotating masses is much more important and generates greater benefit than elsewhere.
Despite their significantly lower weight, Berd spokes have even better mechanical characteristics than traditional steel spokes: greater tensile strength, lower elongation, greater resistance to corrosion and atmospheric agents. They also have a very large capacity to dampen vibrations and impacts, so they give life to very comfortable and very resistant wheels that are free from the problems of fatigue life typical of metals. The greater comfort is not at the expense of the overall stiffness or the reactivity that remain at the top of the category.
Super light spokes but also very reliable and long-lasting (straight-pull head spokes are already more resistant as they do not have the classic bent head, which is the typical weak point of traditional spokes), several laboratory tests have confirmed their positive effect on the whole. wheel that is overall more resistant and more capable of absorbing impacts without suffering permanent damage.
Wheels assembled with Berd spokes are built with a gradual, multi-day tightening process to reduce the amount of tension loss that will occur after the wheels are installed on a bicycle. Despite this, the tension in the wheels with Berd spokes will decrease by about 30% in the first 6 months of use due to the natural settling process of the fibers (the phenomenon is known as "Creep") but, unlike the metal spokes, they retain all their strength regardless of tension. This loss of tension does not affect the life or longevity of the Berd spoked wheels and there is no need to increase the tension. The stiffness of the wheels in fact depends weakly on the tension of the spokes (less than 10%), if you wish you can still proceed with re-tightening after 3-6 months.
Spoke nipples are made of aluminum and they're double square type for a better fitting with rim holes. These nipples has also got a special system that avoid spokes loosen.
With only 990 grams weight for the pair, Extralite CyberDisc 339 Clincher Berd wheels are some of the lightest wheels on the market. All the weights has got 2% tolerance. They're indicative weights subject to modify from the manufacturers of any wheels parts.
Extralite CyberDisc 339 Clincher Berd wheels are pieces of art and absolutely top level! Their weight is impressive but their performance is more impressive!
