Gemini Alzir is the most innovative aerodynamic integrated handlebar for road racing use on the market, thanks to a perfect mix of design, ergonomics, technology, materials and construction skill. It is produced entirely in Spain with very high quality standards and extreme attention to detail. It is a Premium product that reaches the absolute highest level in the cycling sector.
The design is bold and very impactful, the Alzir handlebar is very beautiful but it is also tremendously efficient, nothing has been left to chance. It is an aero handlebar so an accurate aerodynamic study was carried out combined with an equally in-depth biomechanical study aimed at improving the athlete's riding position in terms of both aerodynamics and pedaling efficiency. This is a sensible approach since the aerodynamics of the cyclist and his position influence a good 80% of the total one while the handlebar alone only for 1-2%.
On the Alzir handlebar you can easily change position while maintaining comfort and efficiency, saving watts and expressing maximum power, there is ample support for the high external grip thus avoiding crushing the median nerve of the carpal tunnel, the central part is not completely flat as neither are our hands.
In terms of measurements, the handlebar has a Drop of 125 mm, while the Reach can be chosen between 65 mm and 75 mm. It is made in various widths: 380-400-420 mm (measured centre/centre). The flare angle is 3°, the outward 3° too. We remind you that Gemini produces a similar version dedicated to Gravel, called Alhena, characterized by a 24° flare.
The stem area has various lengths (90-100-110-120 mm) while the inclination is variable depending on the length of the stem and designed to maintain the same effective stack of 30 mm on all configurations (for further information about geometries the guide in PDF format that Gemini has created and made available on its website is very useful, you can also find it in the download section of this product sheet). Compatibility is currently only with 1.1/8" fork steering tubes.
The Alzir integrated handlebar is made of pre-impregnated carbon fiber, where unidirectional and bidirectional fibers are laminated in such a way as to obtain the best possible stiffness/weight ratio. Thicknesses and sections are variable to optimize the weight and reinforce only the areas that are actually most stressed (central area where there is maximum torsion, control area where the gear shift/brake levers are tightened, terminal area to protect from falls and impacts).
It is an entirely monolithic structure made of carbon fiber, this type of construction offers various advantages and allows you to obtain a much more resistant and high-performance product. Since there are no interruptions, the fibers work homogeneously without stress points with a linear and progressive behavior distributing the loads over a larger surface. Unlike the classic stem/handlebar combination, this type of architecture avoids constant and localized stress introduced by tightening the screws that fix the handlebar and significantly prolongs its fatigue life. So no compression of the handlebar with the risk of cuts, involuntary rotation and failure; the final result is a solidity that a traditional solution can never have.
An integrated handlebar made with a monolithic structure, i.e. without gluing, joints or bindings, is decidedly better performing and safer. The absence of discontinuities allows the fibers to work more harmoniously resulting in a better stiffness/weight ratio and a better ability to absorb shocks and vibrations resulting in superior comfort.
Then there are some construction details that are not visible in the finished product but which make the difference in terms of quality and performance, such as the use of specific bladders with the same internal shape as the single handlebar (there is a different bladder for each measure). The bladder is a sort of vacuum bag made of silicone material which is pressurized and contributes to the compaction of the fibers during the molding phase. If its shape perfectly copies the internal surfaces, there will be no wrinkles, folds and resin accumulations, resulting in a lighter, more resistant and safer final object, without weak points.
The Alzir handlebar is made with two different laminations:
- Ultralight - With weights starting from 220 grams, dedicated to those looking for maximum lightness and greater comfort, therefore not only climbs but also long rides. Maximum weight allowed 90 kg (rider + bike + equipment)
- Performance - With weights starting from 310 grams, dedicated to athletes who seek maximum performance in terms of rigidity and want to transform all their power into thrust, particularly suitable for those who sprint and have great power. Maximum weight allowed 130 kg (rider + bike + equipment)
The Alzir handlebar offers maximum integration with modern bicycles that require internal cable routing and is already prepared with cable entry and exit. To complete the integration, Gemini produces specific adapters for the most popular bicycle models on the market.
They must be purchased separately (therefore not included in the price of the handlebar) and you can find them on sale here in our shop. These are adapters made of high-density polymers using 3D printing, a therefore versatile technology that allows you to create different models, so if you don't find the adapter for your bicycle in the list of those available, ask us for it, Gemini is most likely however capable of achieving it.
To complete the perfect integration of the steering area both on an aesthetic and functional level, Gemini, with the same adapter technology, also produces steering spacers of various thicknesses. Two 5 mm spacers and one 10 mm spacer are supplied with the Alzir handlebar. Any other spacers can be purchased separately.
This integration system then allows the Alzir handlebar to be reused on any other new bicycle, simply by equipping itself with the necessary adapter. It is also possible to request a special version of the Alzir handlebar compatible with bicycles not equipped with internal cable routing in the steering area, it will be made with a different cable exit.
The Alzir handlebar is compatible with the Vostok computer support (which you can find and purchase in our shop) dedicated to it, available in two different lengths and various attachment standards to make it compatible with the most popular devices on the market. The Vostok support is fixed to the Alzir handlebar using a powerful 3M bioadhesive. This is a choice, although effective, rather novel but desired as it is advantageous in some respects, in fact it does not require threaded bushes on the handlebars which would interrupt the fibers and weaken the structure and in the event of a fall/impact allow the support to detach from the handlebar without damaging it.
Installing the Gemini Alzir handlebar is a simple operation but requires due attention. It is highly recommended to use a torque wrench (of good quality, of the right operating scale and correctly calibrated) in order to respect the tightening torques indicated by the manufacturer and to use specific assembly paste for carbon fiber to increase the grip and reduce the tightening torque and the consequent stress on the structure for the same grip.
Supplied with the handlebar, in addition to the aforementioned steering spacer kit, there is also the integrated steering cap, made of forged carbon with technology derived from Hypercars, and equipped with a preload screw hidden from view for a more elegant and clean look. Both the preload screw and the two fixing screws to the fork steering tube are made of black anodized titanium with a conical head and Torx insert. Titanium is the best material that can be used in contact with carbon fiber as, being inert, it does not create any type of oxidation problems.
The Alzir handlebar has an external unidirectional UD carbon weave (you can choose glossy or matt finish). The graphics are white decals (non-removable).
Upon request, and for a surcharge, it is possible to have handlebars customized in appearance with special paintwork thanks to the custom lab program. Contact us for further information regarding possible customizations and related costs (the cost of customization varies depending on the type of customization and the number of colors).
With weights starting from just 220 grams (Ultralight version), the Alzir handlebar is among the lightest integrated aero handlebars on the market and also among the lightest possible options overall. The maximum weight limit allowed is 90 kg for the Ultralight version and 130 kg for the Performance version. The weights are considered total (cyclist + bicycle + accessories).
We remind you that saving weight on peripherals (such as the handlebars) is very important, as it allows you to lower the center of gravity for greater stability and rideability and also allows you to minimize the energy dissipated to counteract the pendulum effect of the bike which oscillates sideways during push (especially when pedaling out of the saddle). These are details that at certain levels can make the difference and that should not escape an attentive and demanding biker.
However, the extreme lightness of the Alzir handlebar does not come at the expense of safety, reliability and performance, it is in fact a very high quality and therefore safe product, which complies with regulations and brilliantly passes both laboratory tests ( to bending, to maximum resistance, to fatigue, to impact) and those on the competition fields and obviously those foreseen by the regulations (ISO 4210-5). Its monolithic structure, the use of the best materials and the best technologies, makes it truly highly safe and performing like no other handlebar on the market!
In addition to the functional laboratory tests, quality control and finishing are also equally important. After being produced, each Alzir handlebar is tested with ultrasound to identify any production defects and is then finished by applying a special, very resistant ceramic paint which it also protects it from UV rays as well as making it even more beautiful from an aesthetic point of view.
Gemini products are artisanal products, handmade and offered with different degrees of customization both in terms of dimensions, lamination and finishes. Keeping a complete stock of all the available variables is difficult even for Gemini itself which usually makes to order.
