GrigioCarbonio Tricolore XC T800 are modern carbon fiber spoke wheels with a captivating design and an high technological content, they are at the top of the category for several reasons.
They are made with T800 carbon fiber monolithic main body (uninterrupted fibers for the maximum resistance and a linear and harmonic behavior). The structure is differentiated between front and rear wheel and optimized for XC/Marathon use. Rim inner channel is 25 mm wide, the absence of spoke holes allows to get a totally sealed inner channel which is already tubeless compatible without the use of any sealant tape. The rims profile is 50 mm height.
Rolling is entrusted to specific hubs custom made of 7075T aluminium finely CNC machined with thousandth tolerance to allows superior performances with a lower rolling resistance a great smoothness, reliability and longevity. Axles, bearings and freewheel system are overized and compatible with heavy duty use. Hubs are joined with the carbon fiber body thanks to special adhesives derived from aeronautics industry which ensure a safe bonding. It's also possible, if necessary, remove hubs from the carbon fiber body and reuse them.
The use of modern high technology composite materials has made it possible to overcome some typical problems of spoke wheels and make better use of their multiple advantages :
- The main advantage of a spoke wheel is the absence of an important and continuous stress such as that of the tension of the spokes on traditional wheels, the structure is therefore less stressed and can be made without the typical reinforcements of the spoke areas which in any case create a discontinuity. The result is a more harmonious, elastic structure able to better absorb impacts and stresses that does not collapse even following extreme impacts.
- A further advantage linked to the absence of spoke tension is the maintenance of centering, in fact a spoke wheel does not need to be re-centered or re-tightened periodically so it is substantially zero maintenance in this sense.
- A spoke wheel is more rigid and resistant than a traditional wheel of the same level, can withstand significantly higher impacts without breaking and is equipped with superior lateral stiffness which translates into greater reactivity on relaunches and greater driving precision.
- The absence of holes for housing the spokes, in addition to making the structure more resistant, ensures that the inner channel is sealed and already tubeless ready without the use of any specific tape.
The main defect of which spoke wheels are generally accused is that of excessive longitudinal stiffness and consequent reduction in comfort ... in reality it is a historical legacy linked to the era in which they were introduced on the market when still the materials did not allow to adequately diversify the behavior of the structure. Nowadays, with the latest generation composite materials it is in fact much easier to exploit their potential and the anisotropic characteristics that allow to obtain a structure that is rigid laterally but very flexible longitudinally and therefore able to offer great ride comfort and a large capacity of absorb shock. In fact, it is sufficient to arrange and orient the fibers appropriately (it is part of the designer's skill and the manufacturer's know-how) and the absence of a contrast force by the classic steel spokes in tension allows greater flexibility of the structure. and superior comfort compared to a carbon rim used in the context of a traditional wheel.
Another awe towards spoke wheels is linked to the fear of having to replace the entire wheel in case of breakage or accident. but in the case of the Tricolore XC T800 wheels it is unfounded as there is the possibility, through assistance in the company, to separate the monolithic part in carbon from the aluminum part of the hub which can be recovered in this way to reduce any repair costs in case of accidental breakage . It must be said, however, that the risks of breakage are much lower than what can be expected as the structure is really oversized compared to a normal carbon rim and free of continuous stresses such as the tension of the spokes, moreover most of the damage due to local impacts can be easily repaired at low cost without having to replace the wheel entirely or partially.

They're Boost wheels (15x110 mm front and 12x148 mm rear) with Sram XD 11-12v or Shimano Micro Spline 12v freewheel body. Rims has got matte finishing, is possible to choose the aesthetic fibers external layer from 3K Twill or Unidirectional (UD). Hubs are matte black anodized.

GrigioCarbonio Tricolore XC T800 wheels has got 29 mm wide rims with 25 mm inner channel and 50 mm height.

They are compatible with 29 "Tubeless or Tubeless Ready tires or are also suitable for tubeless conversion systems with sealing liquids. Having no holes inside the channel, they are already sealed and do not require the application of any type of tape.
The generous section also guarantees great lateral and torsional stiffness with a greater volume of air that allows you to travel at lower operating pressures with consequent high performance (better grip and traction, greater comfort and less risk of punctures). The lamination of the rims presents difference between the front and rear rim which are thus optimized according to their structural function.

The hubs of the Tricolore XC wheels are true masterpieces of CNC and precision mechanics. They are made of finely worked 7075T6 aluminum alloy to obtain perfect and sinuous shapes able to couple perfectly with the carbon fiber wheel body.
The rolling is entrusted to the excellent SKF sealed bearings of generous size (external diameter 30 mm) that run on oversized 17 mm axles. The bearings have a triple constraint and therefore do not require any external preload system, the extreme precision of their seat in the hub body allows both axial and concentricity tolerances to a thousandth level which result in a smoothness and a significantly higher average life than high-end products too!
The high quality of the materials and the extreme precision of machining is the main feature of these hubs which is also found in their main element, that is the free wheel system which is composed of a special grade 5 titanium ring with 66 teeth on which they act 3 oversize ratchets made of hardened steel with rack profile that allow rapid and fluid transmission of motion with sudden engagements without the classic response delay typical of traditional systems.
