Extralite Ultrastar 4 1.1/4"is not a simple steering expander but a real miniature CNC masterpiece! An object with a futuristic industrial design with a truly remarkable amount of refined machining to make it more beautiful and lighter! Allows the adjustment of the preload and axial play of the headset bearings, by tightening the cap screw (standard screw diameter 6 mm).
In its apparent complexity, the Ultrastar 4 1.1/4"actually exploits a simple principle which, through a sliding of conical surfaces, allows it to widen and tighten by varying its external diameter according to the needs to adapt to the internal walls of the steering tube. The system is composed of five parts in aluminum alloy 7075T6 finally machined from solid and an o-ring which thanks to its elastic qualities allows to keep the assembled expander even when its external diameter changes.
The Ultrastar 4 1.1/4"can be easily installed in the head tube using a normal 8 mm hex wrench. The operation is completely reversible so the Ultrastar 4 1.1/4" can be easily removed and reused several times even on several bicycles. This is a big point in favor of it compared to traditional metal expanders (star nut) which in addition to needing a specific tool for assembly, are difficult to remove and can then no longer be reused and their assembly/disassembly often damages the internal walls of the steering head tube.
These features make the Ultrastar 4 1.1/4" particularly suitable for mounting inside carbon fiber steering head tubes, but of course it is also compatible with aluminum or steel steering head tubes as long as they have an oversize 1.1/4" external diameter. The ultrastar 4 is however also produced in a version for traditional steering head tubes with an external diameter of 1.1/8", you can always find it in our shop. In both cases the Ultrastar 4 is suitable for both on-road and off-road use (Gravel , MTB).
The Ultrastar 4 1.1/4" has by its construction nature a limited operating range, that is, it is able to guarantee a safe locking, only if the internal diameter of the steering head tube is between 25.0 and 27.2 mm. We always recommend checking this measure on the steering head tube of your fork before making a purchase.
With just 5.7 grams of weight, the Ultrastar 4 1.1/4"is the lightest steering expander in the world compatible with 1.1/4" steering head tubes and allows a significant weight saving compared to the average of the systems found at the first. equipment, which can sometimes even weigh over 50 grams! However, the weight saving does not mean a loss of effectiveness of the system which in reality, in its simplicity, is often even more functional and versatile.
