Extralite HyperWiz is an ultralight Moutain Bike front hub specific for Rock Shox RS-1 forks.
It's a real Predictive Steering hub according to Sram specification with 27 mm oversized axle and 27.5x37 mm bearings which increase stiffness and overall wheel performace where adapted RS-1 hubs are often poor in..
Hub flanges are made of Al7075Txx, the strongest aluminum alloy, it's fully CNC machined with super precise 5 axles machines and then heat treated and surface hardened. Hub shell is made of high module carbon fiber.
Flanges has got black anodized finishing, hub shell has got natural carbon matte finishing.
HyperWiz design is very smart and accurate avoid sharp edges where fatigue can result in broken hub body. Final result is an efficient and reliable product but also a fashionable object with an awesome finishing.
Hub shell body has got Straight Pull flanges which increase lateral stiffness (also radial lacing on right side help to increase lateral stiffness) with a slight weight reduction too. Also disc braking torque transmission is optimized so rim and spokes are less stressed.
Straight pull spokes are also stronger and more reliable because they avoid spoke bending, the tipical j-bend spokes weakness.
The axle is multishaped carbon/alloy made with an oversized 27 mm diameter
HyperWiz rotation it is allowed by a couple of low friction double sealed cartridge bearings. They're made by Enduro USA and they're very high quality bearings with ABEC 5 specifications.Â
You can also get HDC ceramic hybrid bearings with an overprice option. They will assure a lower rolling resistance and they're the best choiche for maximum race performance but with an higher price, lower lasting and a complex installation. Ceramic balls are also more fragile than steel ones so they have got a lower impact resitance. Extralite suggest the use of hybrid ceramic bearings only for race competition with smooth and dry conditions.
There's also an external bearing preload regulation system which allows lower friction and longer bearings life.
With only 98 grams weight (28 holes hub), HyperWiz is actually the lightest Rock Shox RS-1 compatible hub on the market! This stunning result doesn't influence hub performance and reliability which are overall great.
