Darimo Carbon IX2AL is the aluminum version of the famous Darimo Carbon IX2 stem with which it shares several characteristics, thanks to the particular design, including lightness; with weights starting from just 52 grams it is in fact one of the lightest stems in the world. It is made in different inclinations (- 6 °; - 12 °; -17 °; - 25 °) and lengths (40-50-60-70-80-90-100-110-120-130 mm) compatible with 31.8 mm handlebars and 1.1/8" head tubes. The IX2AL stem has a vertical clearance on the head tube of 38 mm, while the clamping width on the handlebar is equal to 48 mm. Darimo has created a useful application that allows you to have a more precise idea of the measures of the stem and the effect that its variations have on the final position. It is a simple Excel file that can also be downloaded from this product sheet in the "attachments" section.
Darimo Carbon IX2AL is not a simple stem but an authentic masterpiece of technology and design. The special two bolts front clamping system guarantees a torsional rigidity superior to any other system, thanks to a good 24 square cm of contact surface with the handlebar. The design is optimized for carbon fiber handlebars, there are no sharp edges, the face-plate is not split but made up of a single element and the large contact surface decreases the average pressure and the consequent stress on the handlebar.
Compatibility is ensured with all MTB handlebars with a diameter of 31.8 mm and also with Road Racing or Gravel Darimo Carbon handlebars from the Ellipse series. It is not possible to insert road racing handlebar with a flattened Aero profile into the IX2AL stem and not even the compatibility with traditional road handlebars can be guaranteed in advance. The 2 bolts front fixing system, in addition to ensuring greater stiffness and fixing safety, reduces the front surface, also improving aerodynamics and aesthetics and allows to reduce the overall weight (two less screws are used).
The particular shape of the stem body with main quadrangular section with rounded corners is not an aesthetic quirk but there is a structural reason behind this choice. FEM analyzes have decreed this solution as the best to guarantee the best ratio between torsional stiffness and weight with a reduction of mechanical stress equal to 20%. You can see the results of these tests in the table above. The large diameter of the central section further contributes to the high torsional stiffness whose increase is exponential as the diameter increases.
An IX2AL stem weighs only 82 grams in 100 mm length and -12 ° angle, the table above shows the weights in various sizes with a tolerance of 3%. The low weight as seen has not been obtained at the expense of performance, as seen in fact the torsional rigidity is at the top of the category, nor at the expense of safety. The IX2AL stem brilliantly passes the ISO 4210-2 safety tests and is suitable for bikers up to 90 kg in weight. On request, with an increase in weight but without extra charge, it is possible to request a special version of the IX2AL binding without weight limitations for the biker.
The Darimo Carbon IX2AL stem is entirely machined from solid through CNC numerical control starting from a 7075T6 aluminum bar, the aluminum alloy with the best mechanical characteristics. It takes well over two hours of continuous machining to obtain an IX2AL stem with its sinuous shapes and well-rounded edges.
The Darimo Carbon IX2AL stem is available with three different types of finish: natural aluminum, matt black anodized, bright black anodized. The "Darimo" graphics and the stem size are engraved by milling.
The fixing bolts are specific for the IX2AL stem, they are also CNC machined from solid grade 5 titanium and have forged heads and rolled threads, which is the maximum that can be requested in terms of safety and resistance. The design of the bolts, thanks to the precise numerical control machining, has made it possible to optimize the weight, removing material where it is not needed and smoothing the contact surfaces with the stem body to minimize stress. These are M4 bolts equipped with an oversized custom head with hexagonal-type tightening wrench insert, the finish is matte black.
It is recommended that the IX2AL stem be installed by an experienced mechanic with a torque wrench (of good quality and well calibrated) respecting the tightening torques indicated in the product manual (max 3.5 Nm).
The Darimo Carbon IX2AL stem was designed for MTB use mainly in the XC / Marathon field, but it can also be used in the Road Racing / Gravel field where the only limit is represented by the compatibility with the handlebars. The particular shape of the non-removable and non-opening front end in fact limits the possibility of inserting some types of road handlebars such as those of the Aero type with a flattened profile or those with a very narrow radius of curvature.
The Darimo Carbon IX2AL stem is compatible with Darimo Carbon handlebars of the Ellipse series for both Road Racing and Gravel use, the insertion procedure is illustrated in a video that you can find on the Darimo Carbon YouTube channel.
The Darimo Carbon IX2AL stem is supplied in a package complete with installation and use manual and the useful mounting kit which also includes the specific mounting paste for carbon fiber handlebars. The assembly paste increases the grip and reduces the torque necessary for the correct tightening of the handlebar and consequently the stress on the same.
Darimo Carbon products are artisanal products, made in small quantities and with multiple possible combinations. Keeping a complete stock of all available variants is very difficult even for the manufacturer himself who makes most of the components to order.
The products we have in stock are indicated as "IN STOCK". All other combinations that do not bear this indication must be ordered specifically with supply times of a few weeks and varying according to the number of orders received. In case of doubt, it is therefore advisable to contact us to get a more up-to-date idea of the expected waiting times, in any case a little patience must be put in place, the quality of the product will repay every effort in this regard!
These products are therefore to be considered made and procured to order and therefore fall outside the canonical right of withdrawal for remote sales and require full advance payment. The cash on delivery method is therefore excluded for this type of product.
