Extralite HyperSaddle GR-46 is a super-light carbon fiber saddle designed for road, gravel or urban use, both competitive and recreational. It is a high-end artisan product, developed by Extralite in collaboration with Gelu Carbon, made entirely in Portugal and designed to obtain the maximum possible performance combined with truly incredible comfort for a full carbon saddle. It is an ISO 4210 tested and certified product.
The construction of the HyperSaddle GR-46 is very refined and with attention to every detail. The shape derives from Gelu's proven K series platform, truly a reference in terms of anatomy, comfort and design.
The sinuous shapes not only determine an elegant line and an attractive design but also excellent aerodynamic efficiency and optimal comfort thanks to the large central cavity (over 30 mm wide) which relieves the prostatic/perineal area from compressions and favors an excellent influx of fresh air into "sensitive" areas. The support of the ischial bones was studied thanks to a team of orthopedic doctors, the lateral sides of the saddle follow the same inclination as the pelvic bones and are slightly yielding to compensate for small movements or asymmetries. It is therefore an orthopedically certified saddle!
The rear of the saddle is slightly raised and is therefore just enough to contain not having the annoying sensation of sliding backwards typical of "flat" carbon saddles. The lightening holes are obtained directly from the mold and are drawn in such a way as not to weaken the structure.
The HyperSaddle GR-46 is 243 mm long and 122 mm wide, making it a modern and compact saddle. The presence of a single size and the fact that the saddle is rather narrow should not be misleading. The anatomical concept (derived from the Gelu "K" series saddles) is in fact very different from common thought and is based on the fact that different widths are not needed to accommodate the various anatomical dimensions, but rather that a flexible shell capable of adapting to the part is needed terminal of the ischial bones. Anyone who has tried saddles of this type can confirm this unique characteristic, that is, that they are extremely comfortable even for bikers who are usually recommended for much wider saddles.
Saddle rails are elliptical (7.7 x 6.0 mm),and are made of high modulus fibres, reinforced and compacted at high pressure, therefore offering great resistance and can be tightened up to 4 Nm. There are also two reinforcement bridges which, in addition to guarantee greater torsional rigidity to the structure, they are also very attractive from an aesthetic point of view.
The HyperSaddle GR-46 is a super-light full carbon saddle and therefore requires particular attention both during installation and use. In fact, carbon fiber is sensitive to impacts and even a small impact with a very hard object can be fatal. We therefore recommend use on well-paved roads by bikers with adequate riding skills and the habit of using ultra-light full carbon saddles.
As regards installation, it requires a seat post that is optimized for saddles with carbon rails and therefore has large contact surfaces with soft and rounded corners avoiding sharp edges. Generally, therefore, most seat posts are equipped with micrometric adjustment with opposing screws (with the classic front and rear clamps), excluding those equipped with aluminum cradles, while for seat posts equipped with a single transverse screw clamping, specific clamps are required for carbon saddles equipped with elliptical rails.
In terms of general recommendations, it is undoubtedly not recommended to lift the bicycle by the saddle shell; Also avoid using solvents or contact with other aggressive chemicals for cleaning or other purposes. Also avoid exposing the saddle to temperatures above 70 C° which can be reached not so difficult in the closed passenger compartment of a car exposed to the sun or following long direct exposure on particularly sunny days.
The HyperSaddle GR-46 has a minimal finish, there are no protective paints and adhesive graphics, the resin of the composite is polished while the "Extralite" logo is engraved on the saddle. It is a racing solution but at the same time elegant, efficient and resistant over time. Since no type of paint or filler has been applied (the product appears as it comes out of the mould) there could be some minimal imperfections, the classic small lacks of resin, these are not real defects but typical characteristics of an artisanal product with a deliberately natural finish.
The weight of the HyperSaddle GR-46 saddle is only 46 grams (tolerance +/- 1 gr.). This is a truly incredible weight, both on an absolute level but above all when compared to the high degree of comfort and resistance that the HyperSaddle GR-46 is able to provide. All this thanks to a formidable mix between a super ergonomic shape and a construction that allows you to obtain a flexible and resistant shell at the same time. The maximum weight limit for the biker is 90 kg.
We remind you that a light saddle offers numerous advantages, being located in the highest part of the bicycle, its weight reduction significantly contributes to lowering the center of gravity of the bicycle itself, thus improving stability and rideability. The pendulum effect is also significantly reduced, thus avoiding unnecessary energy losses and increasing reactivity during sprinting and performance, especially when climbing hills and in any case when pedaling out of the saddle.
